Kara Grainger, born in 1996 in Balmain, Sydney, Australia, is a singer known for her work in blues, blues rock, and soul-blues genres. She began singing at an early age and taught herself to play the guitar by listening to musicians such as Etta James and John Lee Hooker. In 1994, Grainger formed the band Papa Lips with her brother Mitch Grainger. The band won Best New Band at the Australian Blues Music Awards in 1998. In 2006, Grainger signed with Craving Records as a solo artist and released her debut album Grand And Green River in 2008, which charted on the top 40 Americana charts for 38 weeks and won first prize for a Roots album from the Indie Acoustic Project.
