Julia Bullock, born July 16, 1986 in St. Louis, Missouri, is an American soprano known for her contributions to classical music and opera. She joined Opera Theatre of Saint Louis's artist-in-training program while still in high school and later graduated from the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester with a bachelorâs degree.
Bullock's career began to gain traction when she performed with Michael Tilson Thomas and the San Francisco Symphony in 2013. She met composer John Adams, who became a significant collaborator. Bullock sang the role of Dame Shirley in Girls of the Golden West at the San Francisco Opera's world premiere in 2017. Her first solo album, Walking in the Dark, was released in 2022 and won a Grammy for Best Classical Solo Vocal Album at the 66th Grammy Awards.
