Biography

Juan Gregorio Sánchez, known professionally as Juan Sanchez Gorio, and born on November 28, 1920, in Spain, was a bandoneon player, orchestra conductor, and composer. He moved to Argentina at a young age. He began playing the bandoneón, forming a trio by age 13 and later joining Alberto Pugliese's ensemble. In 1940, he formed his own orchestra, debuting on LR4 Radio Splendid. His rhythmic style gained popularity, leading to a contract with RCA Victor in 1943. Notable recordings include "Oriente" and "Claveles mendocinos". In 1951, he signed with Orfeo Records, releasing the hit "Gitana rusa". Sanchez Gorio continued performing until his last televised appearance in 1960 on Ronda de ases. He passed away on July 29, 1979. Posthumously, his work was compiled in albums such as Archivo Columbia: Juan Sanchez Gorio Vol.1 (2011) and Tango Nights (2015).
