Best known as the founder, frontman, and lead guitarist of the desert rock band Queens of the Stone Age, Josh Homme is an American singer-songwriter whose multiple projects include Eagles of Death Metal, Them Crooked Vultures, and Kyuss. He was born in Palm Springs, California, on May 17, 1973. The desert landscape influenced the music he made, starting with his high school band, Kyuss. Formed in 1987, Kyuss released four albums during the early 1990s, including two major-label releases for Elektra, before disbanding in 1995. Homme subsequently moved to Seattle, briefly toured with the Screaming Trees as the band's rhythm guitarist, and formed Queens of the Stone Age in late 1996. The band debuted with a self-titled album in 1998, signed with Interscope for the release of 2000's Rated R, and found commercial success with 2002's Songs for the Deaf, a gold-certified release that reached number 17 in the US and number 4 in the UK. Homme co-wrote and co-produced the album's signature single, "No One Knows," which reached Number 1 on both the US Alternative Airplay and UK Rock & Metal Singles charts. Queens of the Stone Age remained a successful rock act throughout the following two decades, reaching Number 1 on the Billboard 200 with 2013's â¦Like Clockwork and topping the UK charts with its 2017 follow-up, Villains. 2023's In Time New Roman⦠was another high-charting release, hitting number 9 in America and number 2 in the UK. Meanwhile, Homme also released albums with projects like Eagles of Death Metal (in which he played drums), Them Crooked Vultures (his short-lived, Grammy-winning supergroup with Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl and Led Zeppelin alum John Paul Jones), and The Desert Sessions (a Grammy-nominated musical collective based in Homme's hometown of Palm Springs).
