Biography
Jenny Patricia Morris, born on September 29, 1956, in Tokoroa, New Zealand, is a singer-songwriter who began her musical journey at an early age. Her first professional performance was at the age of 15 at Andersons Theatre Restaurant in Hamilton. Morris' initial breakthrough came with the New Zealand band The Crocodiles, whose single "Tears" reached number 17 on the New Zealand singles chart in April 1980. After relocating to Sydney in February 1981, she formed a trio called QED and provided backing vocals for various groups, including INXS on their album The Swing. Morris recorded a duet with Michael Hutchence, "Jackson", which was included as a bonus track on the EP Dekadance, reaching number 2 on the Australian Kent Music Report Albums Chart in March 1985. Her solo career includes top-five ARIA albums with Shiver in 1989 and Honey Child in 1991, featuring notable singles "She Has to Be Loved" and "Break in the Weather". Morris won two ARIA Music Awards for 'Best Female Artist' in 1987 and 1988. She continued to release multiple albums over the next few decades including Honeychild (1991) Salvation Jane (1995) Hit & Myth (2002) and Clear Blue in Stormy Skies (2006) In 2003, she became an Australian citizen and received the Medal of the Order of Australia in 2010.
