Biography

An Cat Dubh, a German band from Darmstadt, was formed in 1992 and was known for their Irish folk and folk-rock music. The band's name translated to "the black cat" in English. An Cat Dubh began performing original songs as well as covers of other artists' work. Their music incorporated various elements, blending melodic rock with influences from Ireland and Scotland. They released Black is the Colour in 1993, followed by Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue (1995). The band gained recognition through live performances in pubs and clubs both domestically and internationally, including tours in Edinburgh, Aberdeen, France, and Britain. Subsequent albums include The Black Cat’s Around (1996), Long Time No See (1998), and Once (2002). In 2017, they celebrated their 25th anniversary with the release of What the Folk, which featured predominantly original compositions.
