Born in Limerick, Ireland on March 30, 1950, Johnny Duhan was an acclaimed folk singer, songwriter, and musician. He began his professional music career in the mid-1960s as a member of beat group Granny’s Intentions. After conquering Limerick and Dublin, Ireland, they relocated to London, where they signed to Deram Records. Between 1967 and 1970, the group issued four singles before releasing their sole album, Honest Injun (1970), which showed that the band were drifting towards a country rock sound. Shortly after the release of the album, Granny’s Intentions split up. Johnny Duhan stepped away from the spotlight and focused on his songwriting, which was moving towards a folk music direction. He returned to music with the release of the single “Molly” (1980), which was reissued in 1982 and featured on his debut solo album, Johnny Duhan (1982). He continued to release a series of solo albums and become one of Ireland’s most acclaimed songwriters. His catalog includes albums such as Current Affairs (1984), Don Quixote (1994), Flame (1996), The Voyage (2005), Just Another Town (2007), Tree (2014), The Burning Word (2014), Creation (2015), and To the Light (2015). Johnny Duhan died on November 12, 2024, in a drowning accident off the coast of County Galway. He was 74 years old.
