Biography

Johnny Colon, born Johnny on April 21, 1942 in New York City, was an American musician and founder of the East Harlem Music School. Colon worked a percussionist, pianist, and trombonist, writing most of the tunes for his orchestra and achieving success with his debut album Boogaloo Blues in 1967. Between 1967 and 1972, he released five albums including Boogaloo '67, Move On, and Portrait of Johnny. In 1968, Colon established the East Harlem Music School. His later works include Keeping it Real in 2008, a pop album with Latin jazz influences.
