Biography

Frontman of the R&B-blues group John Fred And The Playboys, John Fred formed the band when he was just 15-years-old. In 1967 the band changed their name to John Fred & His Playboy Band and released their biggest single Judy In Disguise (With Glasses), a parody of The Beatles' Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds. Branded a novelty act and a one hit wonder, the band struggled to make an impact on the charts with future releases and went their separate ways. In his later years, Fred revisited his childhood love of sports, coaching high school basketball and baseball teams. In 2005 Fred passed away after complications that arose from a kidney transplant. He was inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall Of Fame in 2007.
