Biography

John Acquaviva, born November 19, 1963 in Italy, is an Italian-Canadian DJ and producer. He began his career in Detroit under the name J'acquaviva+8, where he met fellow DJ Richie Hawtin at The Shelter. In 1989, Acquaviva and Hawtin founded Plus 8 Records, releasing Elements of Tone in 1990. They also established Definitive Recordings in 1993. Acquaviva was an early advocate for electronic music's digital future, championing Final Scratch and co-founding Beatport.com. He relaunched Definitive Recordings in 2005 with Mark Quail, achieving significant success with six Number 1 tunes on Beatport.com. Notable releases include "Zombie (Original Mix)" (2005) by John Acquaviva & Lutzenkirchen and "Gail In The O (Damon Jee & John Acquaviva Remix)" by Olivier Giacomotto (2007).
