Biography
Joseph Francis Robert Dolan, born on 16 October 1939 in Mullingar, County Westmeath, Ireland, was a singer known for his high tenor voice and energetic stage performances. He started his music career by forming the band The Drifters with his brother Ben in 1958. He released his debut single "The Answer to Everything" in September 1964, which made it to number four on the Irish charts. His career spanned several decades, marked by numerous album releases and international tours. In 1968, he recorded "Make Me an Island", which became a hit in the UK and led to his appearance on BBC's Top of the Pops. The song reached number one in 14 countries and was his only British top 10 hit. His subsequent albums included You're Such A Good Looking Woman (1970), Lady In Blue (1975), and Crazy Woman (1976), among many others. He also toured extensively, including performances in the USSR in 1978 and Apartheid-era South Africa. He was signed by the MAM Agency, which managed Tom Jones, and collaborated with various writers, producing hits like "Lady In Blue", which sold one million copies. Joseph Francis Robert Dolan passed away on 26 December 2007. Posthumous releases include Let There Be Love (2007), The Platinum Collection (2008), and Joe Dolan, Orchestrated Volume 2 (2017).
