Biography

Joël Manglou was born on June 14, 1958 in Sainte-Suzanne on the island of Réunion. He grew up in a family of varied origins, including Breton, and trained in a number of disciplines after his military service. In the midst of electromechanics, agriculture and education, he developed a desire to make music, linked to the violin and cello he learned in his youth. Attracted by poetry as much as Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin, Joël Manglou sketched out his first compositions, advocating care for nature and others. Strongly inspired by Reunion music, he released his first sega album, Ravages, on Discorama in 1995. Despite their low profile, these first recordings enabled Joël Manglou to perform live, and encouraged him to continue promoting Creole culture. In addition to A cause (2000) and 'Magine. .. (2003), two new albums exploring sega and maloya, the Reunionese singer is committed to passing on the major points of Creole culture to younger generations.
