Jeremy Matthew Messersmith, born in Charleston, South Carolina, is an American indie pop musician based in Minneapolis. He began playing music at a young age, initially on trumpet before switching to guitar. In 1999, he moved to Minneapolis to study music at North Central University. His debut album The Alcatraz Kid was released in 2006, earning him recognition as the "premier under-30 songwriter" in the Twin Cities by City Pages. Messersmith's third album, The Reluctant Graveyard (2010), was named one of NPRâs Top 10 Albums of the year. In 2013, he signed with Glassnote Records for his album Heart Murmurs (2014), which included the single "Tourniquet".
