Biography
Born Jeannine Bellefeuille on November 10, 1946 in Saint-Hyacinthe (Canada), Jenny Rock is a pop singer from Quebec. She began her career in 1959, performing Elvis Presley hits on tour with Jean Grimaldi's troupe. In 1963, she received an offer from the Sélect label to record her music. She released her first album, Jenny Rock Vol.1, the following year. Her song "Douliou douliou Saint-Tropez" , a Quebec adaptation of the theme song from the film Le Gendarme de Saint-Tropez starring Louis de Funes and Michel Galabru, won her the 1965 Discovery of the Year award at the Gala des artistes. On April 23 of the same year, she opened for the Rolling Stones at the Maurice-Richard arena in Quebec. In 1966, she released the song and dance "Le Sloopy", which became an instant hit on Quebec radio charts. She also opened for Johnny Hallyday at Place des Arts in Montreal in the spring of 1966. The singer left show business in the late 1960s to pursue her studies. She returned to the stage in the 1970s, performing in the hotel and casino circuit, notably in Las Vegas. Returning to the province of Quebec in the 1980s, she wrote new songs and musical revue concepts, and took part in retro evenings. She continued to perform in the 2000s and 2010s, while teaching early music to pre-school children.
