Biography

Jennifer Larmore is an American mezzo-soprano who has sung at many of the major opera venues around the world and made well-received albums including Humperdinck's 'Hansel & Gretel' for which she won the Grammy Award for best opera recording in 2007. Born in Georgia, she studied in New Jersey and appeared first professionally in Mozart's 'La Clemenza di Tito' at the Opera de Nice in 1986. Following her New York debut in Belini's 'I Capuleti e i Montecchi' in 1994, she appeared with the Metropolitan Opera one year later in Rossini's 'The Barber of Seville'. She has made many other appearances at the Met and also sang in Geneva and Berlin. Larmore has sung the role of Rosina in 'The Barber of Seville' more than 500 times and performed in a great many recitals in venues from Amsterdam to Paris to Hong Kong, London and Madrid. In 1996, she sang in the closing ceremonies of the Summer Olympics in her home town of Atlanta and she appeared in a TV programme that celebrated the 30th anniversary of 'Star Trek' in a tribute to the show's creator Gene Roddenberry. Celebrated as a mezzo-soprano, she has made many recordings for top labels including Deutsche Grammophon and toured with regular collaborator Antoine Palloc. She also has appeared on a satellite radio show in America called 'Backstage With Jennifer Larmore'.
