Biography

Jean-Paul Poletti, born Ghjuvan'Paulu Poletti on May 28, 1949 in Ajaccio, France, is a Corsican singer-songwriter and musician known for his contributions to traditional polyphonic music. Influenced by local musicians, Poletti co-founded the group Canta u Populu Corsu in 1973, which revitalized Corsican polyphonic singing and contributed to the island's cultural renaissance. In 1992, he led Les Nouvelles Polyphonies corses at the Albertville Winter Olympics opening ceremony. In 1994, Poletti received a Victoire de la Musique and was honored by the Royal College of London. His compositions, notably Messa Sulenna, have been performed by notable ensembles such as the OpÃ©ra de Lyon and the ChÅur de SartÃ¨ne, which he directed until 2018.
