Biography

A discreet and somewhat atypical character, Jean-Claude Darnal is best known for composing for the stars of the Fifties. This native of the North of France began playing on the terraces of Saint-Germain-des-Prés and published a few songs, before setting off on a hitchhiking adventure. He interrupted his bohemian career when some of his songs met with success, performed by Les Frères Jacques and Annie Cordy. His signature song remains "Quand la mer monte", sung by Raoul de Godewarsvelde. He also enjoyed minor success as a performer. Jean-Claude Darnal also became a children's TV presenter and author of books and screenplays. He died on April 12, 2011.
