Born Jude Francois on March 7, 1995 in Los Angeles, California, the Haitian American hip hop/trap/soul artist and songwriter is better known by his stage name Jay Burna. Born to Haitian parents, at the age of four, he was introduced to music by his father. His earliest influences were classic soul artists like Marvin Gaye and 1980s funk act Zapp featuring Roger Troutman. His musical career began in school when he would freestyle with his classmates. Burna relocated to Fort Lauderdale, Florida and continued pursuing music as a career. In 2009, he founded his own indie label, Black Congress Music Group, in order to release his music. âRolling Stoneâ, his debut single, was released in 2010. Two more singles â the hit âRespectâ and âMy Dirty Dianaâ â were released in 2011. His single âReadyâ (2014) gained exposure on MTV, leading to the chart success of his next single, âMoodâ. In 2015, Burna released the mini album Fear Is a Lie, which was followed by the hit single âMine All Mineâ. While building his own career, he guested on tracks by Kid Ink, Sammie, Fetty Wap, Wyclef Jean, and others. In October 2020, Burna released the single âJamaicaâ, a collaboration with Fetty Wap featuring Skye.
