Biography

Winner of the Queen Elisabeth Competition in 1991, Flemish pianist Jan Michiels (b. 1966) studied neoclassical and contemporary composers under pedagogue Hans Leygraf in Berlin. In 2011, after recording works by Ligeti, Bartok, Lekeu, Stravinsky and Goeyvaerts and giving several masterclasses, he was awarded a doctorate for his work inspired by Luigi Nono. In 2012, his Tombeau de Debussy won critical acclaim.
