Biography

Jóhann Ásmundsson, born on March 30, 1961, in Iceland, is an Icelandic bassist known for his contributions to jazz/instrumental-funk-fusion. He began his musical journey as a member of the instrumental funk-fusion band Mezzoforte in 1977. With Mezzoforte, Ásmundsson recorded over a dozen albums and participated in worldwide tours. Notably, he served as the lead sound engineer for their album Volcanic, released in November 2010. In addition to his work with Mezzoforte, Ásmundsson was active as a session and studio musician, contributing to numerous albums, primarily in Iceland. His solo career includes two notable releases: So low (August 6, 2001) and Floating (July 2016). He began teaching at the Jazz College of Iceland in Reykjavík.
