Born in Inglewood, Los Angeles, California, on June 7, 1993, Khalif Malik Ibn Shaman Brown aka Swae Lee grew up in Tupelo, Mississippi, with his brother Slim Jxmmi (Aaquil Ibinshaman Brown). The two formed the rap group Rae Sremmurd, which achieved international success with the albums SremmLife (2015) and SremmLife 2 (2016). On the solo front, Swae Lee made his debut on a Mike Will Made It track, "Drinks on Us", followed by appearances with Wiz Khalifa and French Montana, including the track "Unforgettable", which reached #3 on the charts. He also took part in the Black Panther film soundtrack, before working on his first solo album as well as Rae Sremmurd's third album, SR3MM (2018). Released as a triple album in May 2018, SR3MM includes his own opus Swaecation alongside that of his brother Jxmtro and the joint opus SR3MM. Subsequently, Swae Lee has collaborated with Ellie Goulding and Diplo, Post Malone, then Madonna on her Madame X album (2019) and Travis Scott on the #1-rated hit "Sicko Mode". After Grammy Award nominations, in 2020 he appears on "Be Like That" with Kane Brown and Khalid (#19) and on "Catch Up" by Chloe x Halle. In 2021, he appeared on Alicia Keys' track "Lala", before concentrating on his second album Same Difference, released in 2026 with contributions from Nav, Rich the Kid, Post Malone and French Montana.
