Jackie Ross, born Jaculyn Bless Ross on 30 January 1946 in St. Louis, Missouri, is an American soul singer. At the age of three, she began singing on her parents' radio gospel show; her father was a priest. After her father's death in 1954, she moved with her mother to Chicago, where they befriended soul icon Sam Cooke. In 1962, he persuaded her to record a single for his label SAR Records. In 1964, Jackie Ross signed with Chess Records in Chicago and released her first single under the label, which included "Selfish One". The song reached number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number four on the R&B Charts. Despite this early success, subsequent singles such as "I've Got the Skill" and "Jerk And Twine / New Lover" did not achieve the same level of chart performance. She continued to release singles through various labels until 1974.
