Biography

Jack Shaindlin, born on April 14, 1909, in Karasubazar, Crimea, Russian Empire, was a Russian-American musician, arranger, conductor, music director, and composer. He began his musical career as a pianist in silent movie halls after relocating to the United States with his mother and brother Leo. In the late 1940s, Shaindlin served as the musical director of the Carnegie Pops Orchestra at Carnegie Hall. He composed numerous television and cartoon scores, including "Quick Draw McGraw", "Father Knows Best" and "The Cisco Kid". Shaindlin also directed significant documentaries and collaborated with Gypsy Rose Lee on a musical review. He is notably known for conducting two scores by Morton Gould: Cinerama Holiday (1955) and Windjammer (1958). His compositions have been featured in various media, including the video game Fallout 3, the TV series Boardwalk Empire, and films like Pearl Harbor. Shaindlin passed away on September 22, 1978.
