Biography

Justin Vernon, born on 25 March 1980 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, was the founding vocalist, guitarist, and keyboardist of the American indie folk project Bon Iver. He developed an interest in music while working with the indie rock band The Rosebuds and recorded the first songs that would later become For Emma, Forever Ago. In 2007, Vernon released the EP Blood Bank, where the single "Skinny Love" drew attention, leading to a contract with Jagjaguwar and later 4AD in 2011. The debut album For Emma, Forever Ago (2007) featured the track "Skinny Love" and was followed by the self‑titled album Bon Iver (2011), which included "Holocene" and earned a Grammy Award for Best New Artist on 6 February 2012. In 2016, the third studio album 22, A Million was released with singles "Jelmore" and "Faith". The album i,i (2019) added singles "U (Man Like)" and "Faith". The collaboration with Taylor Swift on "Exile" (2020) reached the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100. The studio release, Sable, Fable (2025), consolidated earlier EPs into a full‑length album, and the 2026 archival series Volumes: One was released in April, which collected selections of live recordings from 2019 to 2023 with a 6 piece band member line up.
