Issa Diop, known mononymously as Issa, was born on January 9, 1997, in Dakar, Senegal. He is a singer and songwriter who began his music career with the release of his self-titled debut EP Issa on November 14, 2007. His breakthrough came in August 2008 when BET selected him as a "Ya Heard? Break-out Artist of the Month" for "Used to Be the One," the first single from his upcoming album Rules of Attraction. In July 2009, Issa performed in Portland, Oregon, opening for Jay Sean at his single release party for "Down." In January 2010, Akon featured Issa's single "Blowin up My Phone" on his Hitlab Radio Show, which led to a label signing with Hitlab Music Company in August 2011. Issa toured with Akon in Canada that same year. His notable releases include the album Wake up the Bea(S)T (2015) and singles like "All About You," featuring Zito, and "Sleep On You," featuring Tory Lanez.
