Nasio Fontaine, born in 1969 in Carte-Bois, Dominica, is a Dominican singer known for his contributions to world music. He began singing at age eight and initially drew inspiration from genres like Calypso, Soca, and Zouk. After moving to Sint Maarten in 1981, Fontaine discovered Reggae and Rastafari culture, which significantly influenced his musical style. At 13, he adopted a vegetarian diet and embraced the Rastafari religion. In 1986, Fontaine produced his first single "Born to be free", selling five thousand copies and earning him national recognition as Dominica's artist of the year. His debut album Reggae Power was released in 1994, followed by Revolution (1999), Living In the Positive (2004), Universal Cry (2006), and compilation album Rise Up (2007).
