Ibeyi were born LisaâKaindé Diaz and Naomi Diaz on 13â¯Decemberâ¯1994 in Paris, France, where they grew up after two years spent in Havana. Their father, renowned Cuban percussionist Angaâ¯DÃaz, and their mother, FrenchâVenezuelan singer Mayaâ¯Dagnino, shaped their musical upbringing; the twins studied Yoruba folk songs and learned instruments-LisaâKaindé on piano and Naomi on cajón and Batá drums. In 2013, they signed with XL Recordings, and the following year they released the EP Oya, featuring the single "Oya", which introduced their blend of Yoruba, French, and AfroâCuban sounds. Their selfâtitled debut album Ibeyi arrived in 2015, paying tribute to their late father and featuring the track "Yanira" about their older sister. In 2017 the duo released Ash, which earned a nomination for IMPALAâs European Album of the Year Award. They appeared in Beyoncéâs Lemonade short film in 2016 and performed in Havanaâs CHANEL 2016 Cruise and MUSICABANA festivals. The single "Aset" was issued in Marchâ¯2026 as the lead to their fourth album Offering, released on 26â¯Juneâ¯2026. Throughout their career, Ibeyi have cited Angaâ¯DÃaz, Frankâ¯Ocean, Jamesâ¯Blake, and Kingâ¯Krule as influences and have collaborated on tracks such as "This Is Not America" with Residente. Their work continues to highlight Yoruba spirituality and AfroâCuban heritage in contemporary soul, R&B, and electronic music.
