Biography

Hump Back, an all-female Japanese rock band, was formed in 2009 in Higashiōsaka, Osaka. The group was founded by Momoko Hayashi, who remains the lead vocalist and guitarist. Initially influenced by Chatmonchy, Hump Back began as a high school club and participated in various local competitions, including the Senko Riot rock music competition for teens in 2012. The band's early releases included the EP say good bye (2012) under an indie label. Despite frequent member changes from 2013 to 2015, Hump Back continued to evolve, with Hayashi as the sole constant member. In 2015, bassist Pika and in 2016, drummer Misaki joined, completing the current lineup. The band's major debut came in 2018 with the single "Haikei shonen yo", which reached Number 13 on the Weekly Oricon Album Charts. Subsequent releases such as Ningen Nanosa (2019) and Achatter (2021) also achieved high rankings on the charts. Hump Back's music, characterized by powerful beats and melodic tunes, often explores themes of daily life and adolescence from a cross-gender perspective. The band has maintained a strong presence with annual live tours across Japan and notable performances such as their 2023 concert "Uchiagehiroen" at Nippon Budokan.
