Biography

Paul D. Hudson, born 11 February 1956 in Liverpool, Merseyside, is a vocalist and guitarist known professionally as H.R., who first gained attention as the frontman of Washington, D.C.’s hardcore band Bad Brains. After moving to the United States as a toddler, Paul D. Hudson entered the local music scene with future bandmates Dr. Know and Darryl Jenifer, and his rapid‑fire vocal style quickly became a defining element of the emerging hardcore punk movement. In 1985 he released his solo debut It’s About Luv, followed by Keep Out of Reach (1986), Human Rights (1987), Singin’ in the Heart (1989) and Charge (1990). Paul D. Hudson’s collaborations spanned artists such as Long Beach Dub Allstars on "New Sun" and P.O.D. on "Without Jah, Nothin’". He has toured extensively with Bad Brains and as a solo reggae‑focused act, maintaining a presence in both punk and reggae circles. Further releases include I Luv (1991), Our Faith (1992), Hey Wella (2008), Give Thanks (2019), and Let Luv Lead (The Way) (2023). In 2026, he partnered with the Canadian collective New Age Doom for the album Angels Against Angels.
