Biography
Launched in the late 1990s, the career of French-Swedish Herman Düne has created welcome bridges between Europe and the United States. Often seen as Europe's answer to New York's anti-folk scene, the band has released a plethoric and fragmented discography and played a leading role in the development of the folk scene on the Old Continent. Having become a duo after Switzerland Heritage (2001) and Not on Top (2005), Herman Düne recorded the albums Giant (2006) and Next Year in Zion (2008) at their own pace. In 2011, without the umlaut in the band's name, their folk is tinged with a certain psychedelia on Strange Moosic. In 2013, David-Ivar Herman Düne became the artist Black Yaya, while composing the music for the film Mariage à Mendoza. He soon returned as Herman Dune, in 2018, with two albums, Sweet Thursday and Santa Cruz Gold, followed by the country Notes from Vinegar Hill (2020) and music for the film Petaouchnok (2022). Meanwhile, he begins The Portable Herman Dune trilogy, then returns in 2025 with Odysseús.
