Biography
Herbert Ernst Groh, born on 27â¯Mayâ¯1906 in Lucerne, Switzerland, was a tenor whose early vocal training in Milan, Zürich, and Munich led to a debut at Darmstadt Theatre in 1926. He entered the German radio scene in 1930 with the Hamburg NORAG and later signed an exclusive contract with the Berlin-based Lindström Group. His early recordings in Italy were made under the name Ernesto Groh. Through the 1930s and 1940s, he performed in operetta concerts at the Berlin Admiralspalast, entertained German troops during World War II, and made recordings, including with Adolf Steimelâs orchestra. After the war, he toured Europe with Robert Stolz and continued recording until the 1960s with albums like Johan Strauss 1001 Nacht (1963) and Horst Winter - Wunschkonzert (1964). He died in Julyâ¯1982 in Norderstedt, Hamburg.
