Help She Can't Swim was an English indie/art rock group formed in Southampton in 2003 by Tom Denney (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Leesey Frances (vocals, keyboards), Tim Palmer (bass, keyboards), and Lewis Baker (drums), with Tom Baker (guitar, bass, keyboards) leaving in 2006; the band emerged from the local postâpunk revival scene and released their debut EP Suck Our Band on the Vacuous Pop label before signing to Fantastic Plastic Records, where they issued the single "Bunty vs Beano" in September 2004 and the EP Committing Social Suicide in December 2005, establishing a reputation for sharp, artârock songwriting; their first fullâlength album, Fashionista Super Dance Troupe, followed in December 2004, and the band continued to release singlesâ"Midnight Garden" (March 2006) and "Hospital Drama" (March 2007)âculminating in their second album, The Death Of Nightlife, in May 2007, which featured the single "Hospital Drama"; after touring extensively in the UK and sharing stages with contemporary acts, the group announced their split on 26 May 2008, citing personal commitments, and a digital compilation of Bâsides, B Sides, was issued in 2010; postâbreakup, former members pursued solo projects and new bands.
