Biography

Helge Rosvænge, born Helge Anton Rosenvinge Hansen on August 29, 1897, in Copenhagen, Denmark, was a tenor. After studying at the Technical University of Denmark and receiving private vocal training, Rosvænge made his debut as Don José in Carmen in Neustrelitz in 1921. He performed at various opera houses including those in Altenburg, Basel, Cologne, Berlin, and Vienna. He was a member of the Vienna State Opera from 1930 to 1957. Rosvænge's repertoire spanned over 100 roles, encompassing operas by Mozart, Verdi, Puccini, and Beethoven. He performed the role of Florestan in Fidelio and appeared at the Salzburg Festival starting in 1932. During his peak years, he reportedly performed over 200 times annually. Rosvænge's final stage appearance took place in Munich in 1972, shortly before his death on June 19.
