Biography

Hélène Julienne Alice Bouvier, born on June 20, 1905 in Paris, was a French mezzo-soprano/contralto opera singer. She studied at the Paris Conservatory and debuted in 1930 at Nantes in Gluck's Orphée et Eurydice. Bouvier performed at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires before returning to France for roles such as Carmen and Dalila in Samson et Dalila by Camille Saint-Saëns at the Palais Garnier and Opéra-Comique during the 1938-1939 season. Her repertoire included roles like Charlotte from Werther and Geneviève from Pelléas et Mélisande. She retired from performing in 1967 and taught singing in Paris. Bouvier died on March 11, 1978. She can be heard on L'Enfance du Christ by Hector Berlioz, reissued in CD format in 2017 and 2019.
