Biography

John Peel-approved UK indie rockers Hefner formed in east London in 1992 and enjoyed a brief yet influential career, developing an ardent fanbase between the years 1996 and 2002. Vocalist and guitarist Darren Hayman (who went on to amass a prolific solo repertoire) met drummer Antony Harding at art school in Kent and after moving to London two years later, expanded the duo to include bassist John Morrison. The trio released their debut Another Better Friend EP and scored a record deal with indie imprint Too Pure, with whom they released debut album, Breaking God's Heart. Second album The Fidelity Wars arrived a year later but later releases We Love the City and Dead Media saw the band head off in an electronic direction. 2006 closed the lid on their career with the Catfight compilation, collecting unreleased material. The album was reissued in 2011 to include tracks from The Hefner Brain EP.
