The Moments were an American sweet-soul/R&B vocal group formed in 1965 in Hackensack, New Jersey, initially featuring John Morgan and later becoming associated with the trio of Harry Ray, Al Goodman and Billy Brown. They signed to Sylvia Robinsonâs Stang Records and released their debut album, Not on the Outside, But on the Inside, Strong!, in 1968; their breakthrough came with âLove on a Two-Way Streetâ (1970), which topped Billboardâs R&B chart for five weeks and reached number 3 on the Hot 100. Their main albums included A Moment with the Moments (1970), On Top (1971), The Other Side of the Moments (1972), My Thing (1973), Those Sexy Moments (1974), Look at Me (1975) and Moments with You (1976). Other major hits included âNot on the Outsideâ (1968), âI Do,â âIf I Didnât Careâ and âAll I Haveâ (1970), âSexy Mamaâ (1973), which reached number 3 R&B and number 17 pop, and âLook at Me (Iâm in Love)â (1975), their second Number 1 R&B hit. In 1978, the band changed their name to Ray, Goodman & Brown because Stang retained the rights to The Moments name, and they continued their success with the 1979 R&B No. 1 âSpecial Lady.â
