Biography

Hansheinz Schneeberger was a Swiss violinist and educator born on October 16, 1926, in Bern. He studied at the Bern Conservatory, in Lucerne with Carl Flesch, and in Paris with Boris Kamensky, graduating in 1944. Schneeberger performed as a soloist and chamber musician and served as the first concertmaster of the NDR Symphony Orchestra between 1958 and 1961. He led the master class at the Basel Music Academy starting in 1961. His career featured the premieres of the musical pieces “Violin Concerto” by Frank Martin (1952), Béla Bartók's “1. Violin Concerto” (1958), and “Tempora” by Klaus Huber (1970). Schneeberger toured the Soviet Union in 1986 and participated in the Lockenhaus and Mondsee festivals. His discography included the recording Hansheinz Schneeberger, 2006. He received the Robert-Schumann-Preis in 1995. Schneeberger died on October 23, 2019, in Basel.
