Han-na Chang is a conductor and cellist born on December 23, 1982, in Suwon, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. She began studying piano at age three and cello at six. In 1993, her family moved to the United States, where she enrolled in the pre-college division of the Juilliard School. Chang's breakthrough came in 1994 when she won the First Prize at the Fifth Rostropovich International Cello Competition. She made her debut recording of Tchaikovsky's Variations on a Rococo Theme in 1995 with Mstislav Rostropovich conducting the London Symphony Orchestra. Chang later shifted her focus to conducting, making her professional debut in Korea in 2007 and founding the Absolute Classic Festival in 2009. Her notable conducting roles include serving as music director of the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra from 2014 until her resignation that same year, principal guest conductor of the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra from 2013 to 2025, and principal guest conductor of the Hamburger Symphoniker in the 2022-2023 season.
