Grupo AlegrÃa is a cumbia band formed in Punitaqui, Chile in 1995. Founded by former members of Grupo Fantasia - Paskual RamÃrez (vocals / guitar) and ElÃas Vergara (bass) â the group became one of the most popular groups in the region. Mixing tropical cumbia sounds with keyboards and electronic drums, Grupo AlegrÃaâs group members changed frequently over the years although they continued to remain popular. While their early releases â including A Gozar Suavecito (1995) and Super Ladrón / Pan de Azúcar (1996) â sold well, the groupâs popularity increased with the addition of vocalist Américo (real name: Domingo Johnny Vega Urzúa). After the departure of founding member Paskual Ramirez, Américo became Grupo AlegrÃaâs main vocalist on a series of albums including La Fiesta (1997) and Bribabai (2001). During Américoâs time with Grupo AlegrÃa, they scored several hits like "El Teléfono," "Borracho Y Mujeriego," "El Cigarrito,â "Tu Tarjetita," "Si Me Dejas Ahora," "Mujeres Y Cervezas," "Aquella Noche," ''Tu Corazón Nos Hizo, "SÃrvame Otra Copa," "Noche De Amor," "Qué Dolor," "No Quiero Saber De Ti," and many others. However, Américo left the group in 2002 for a solo career and a series of singers stepped in to take his place. While their commercial heyday was when Américo fronted the group, they continued to score hit singles and released albums such as Un Gigante en Tu Corazón (2007), Sin LÃmites (2010), La Fondita 2020, and En Vivo en la Gran Fonda de Radio Azúcar (2021).
