Greyson Chance (born on August 16, 1997) is an American singer-songwriter mostly known for his viral YouTube videos. In 2010, Chance uploaded a video of himself performing Lady Gagaâs âPaparazziâ at a school music festival to his YouTube channel, which quickly accumulated over 67 million views. The video was picked up by several blogs and websites, and caught the attention of TV host Ellen DeGeneres, who invited Chance to perform live at her show on two occasions. Preceded by the singles âWaiting Outside the Linesâ and âUnfriend You,â Hold On âtil the Night (2011), his studio debut, garnered mixed reviews but somehow managed to peak at Number 29 on the Billboard 200 list, selling more than 16,000 copies in the first week of its release. Following a successful tour throughout Asia, Chance released his first EP, Truth Be Told, Part 1 (2012) via Geffen Records. He followed up with Somewhere Over My Head (2016), which spawned the single âAfterlifeâ and was presented at New Yorkâs Webster Hall. In 2017, Chanceâs cover of Eric Carmenâs âHungry Eyesâ was featured on the soundtrack of Dirty Dancingâs TV remake. Portraits (2019), his highly-anticipated sophomore effort, signaled a sea change for the singer, ditching the piano-driven ballads of his studio debut and focusing more on contemporary R&B and urban pop music.
