Biography

The Gospel Hummingbirds, an American gospel music group from Oakland, California, were founded in the 1970s by Joe A. Thomas's father. The group released their debut album Route 66 To Heaven on Evans Music in 1981. In the 1990s, they signed with Blind Pig Records and released two albums: Steppin' Out (1992) and Taking Flight (1995). The former was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Traditional Gospel Album in 1993. Several members including Joe Thomas, Roy Tyler, Josh Lowrey, Clarence Nichols have passed away.
