Biography
Gogi Grant, born Myrtle Audrey Arinsberg on September 20, 1924, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is an American pop music singer. She moved to Los Angeles at twelve and began performing in local television talent shows. Before her singing career took off, she worked as an autoverkäuferin. In 1952, after recording a demo of "I'm Yours" at Gold Star Studio, she was signed by RCA Victor under the stage name Gogi Grant. Grant's breakthrough came in 1956 with her hit single "The Wayward Wind", which reached Number 1 on the Billboard charts and sold over a million copies. She had previously released several singles, including "Suddenly Thereâs a Valley" and "Who Are We". Following this success, she recorded albums such as Suddenly There's Gogi Grant (1957) and provided the singing voice for Ann Blyth in The Helen Morgan Story. In 1958, she appeared in the film The Big Beat, playing singer Cindy Adams. Grant collaborated with notable figures like Buddy Bregman and Ray Heindorf. Her later albums include Show Boat (1958) and City Girl In The Country (1964). After a period of inactivity, she returned to performing in the late 1980s until her death on March 10, 2016.
