Biography

Gladiator, a Slovak Grunge, Death Metal, and Thrash Metal band formed in Alekšince in 1989, emerged from the local underground scene where the founding members, primarily vocalist and guitarist, began experimenting with grunge and metal influences. Their early efforts culminated in the 1992 debut Designation, followed by Made of Pain (1993) and Third Eye (1994), establishing a reputation for aggressive riffing and melodic hooks. In 1996 the band signed with Ariola, releasing Dogstime, and the next year issued Legal Drug (1997), which included a cover of The Doors’ “Touch Me”. A shift to Universal Music Group produced Črepy (2002) and Cesta do neba (2004), while a later partnership with Columbia Records yielded Mesto (2006), …Ako predtým (2007), and “Hlavu maj hore” (2008). The group continued to tour extensively across Central Europe, supporting major acts and appearing at prominent festivals. Throughout their career, Gladiator maintained a steady presence on Slovak radio and earned recognition for their contribution to the national rock scene, with several tracks charting on local airplay lists and the band receiving multiple industry nominations for best album and best live performance.
