Girls in Hawaii hold high the banner of Belgian, if not European, indie rock. Directly influenced by American indie rock from Blonde Redhead and Grandaddy to Nada Surf and R.E.M., Girls in Hawaii definitely don't use the ukulele. 2003's From Here to There is one of the year's pleasant surprises. Girls in Hawaii returned in 2008 with Plans Your Escape and a European tour. Girls in Hawaii's career is interrupted for a while after the death of drummer Denis Wielemans in 2010. The band returned brighter than ever with Everest in September 2013. A year later, their fourth album Hello Strange is released, recorded in unplugged form.
