Biography

Gerty Herzog, born Gerty Blacher-Herzog on 14 July 1922 in Aachen, was a German pianist. She faced early obstacles in her musical career when she was not admitted to the Musikhochschule Berlin in 1938 due to being classified as "half-Jewish" under the Nuremberg Laws. Despite this, she pursued private studies with Wladimir von Horbowski and Siegfried Borris. Her international career featured dedicated compositions such as Rudolf Wagner-Régeny's "5 Klavierstücke für Gertie" (1951) and Gottfried von Einem's "Klavierkonzert op. 20". She passed away on 21 January 2014 in Berlin.
