Biography

Starting out in the shadow of the giants (he wrote for Edith Piaf, Yves Montand and Barbara), Georges Moustaki rose to become one of the great singer-songwriters of French chanson. The "Métèque", named after the classic he sang in 1969, has become an atypical and essential veteran, and offers an example of an artistic personality that has matured over a long period before asserting itself in the spotlight. Celebrated by a box set in 2002, Georges Moustaki continues to record albums such as Moustaki (2003), Vagabond (2005) and Solitaire (2008), as well as touring extensively. Born in Alexandria (Egypt) in 1934 to a Jewish family originally from Greece, this giant of song passed away on May 23, 2013 at the age of 79.
