Biography
Johannes Bouwens, known professionally as George Baker, was born on December 8, 1944, in Hoorn, Netherlands. Raised by his mother and grandparents, Bouwens began his musical journey at a young age, singing and playing guitar in a school band called The Jokers. In 1961, he adopted the stage name "Body" and formed Body and the Wild Cats. His breakthrough came in 1968 when he joined Soul Invention, which later transformed into George Baker Selection. With this band, Bouwens released their debut album Little Green Bag in 1970, featuring the hit single "Little Green Bag", which reached number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 and sold over one million copies globally. The band's success continued with hits like "Dear Ann" and "Paloma Blanca", the latter reaching Number 1 in several countries and selling over seven million copies worldwide. In 1978, Baker disbanded the Selection due to pressure but reformed it in 1985. Notable achievements include the song "Little Green Bag" being featured in the film Reservoir Dogs (1992) and the Australian drama series Love Child (2015).
