Biography

Genticorum was formed in autumn 2000 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, by fiddle player Pascal Gemme, guitarist Yann Falquet, and wooden‑flute/accordionist Nicholas Williams, with former member Alexandre de Grosbois‑Garand joining later. The trio blended modern composition with classic folk and Celtic influences, drawing on Gemme’s fiddle tunes and traditional French‑Canadian lyrics. Their debut album Le Galarneau (2002) introduced the group’s sound, followed by Malins Plaisirs (2005), which won the Canadian Folk Music Award for Best Ensemble and earned Juno and Félix nominations. Subsequent releases—La Bibournoise (2008), Nagez Rameurs (2011), Enregistré Live (2013), Avant l'orage (2018), and Au coeur de l'aube (2023)—expanded their catalog. In the following years, Genticorum toured internationally, performing in Egypt, Malaysia, and Europe, while offering bilingual workshops in Quebec’s traditional dance scene.
