Biography

Ashiya Gannosuke (born May 29, 1931 in Kyoto Prefecture) is a Japanese actor and enka singer who made a significant mark as an artist, making his record debut in 1960 with the song "Sanjyohei Monogatari" (Tale of the Third Class), and was well known for his warm and friendly singing voice. The biggest turning point in his musical career was the single "Musume yo" released on February 1, 1984. The song was a big hit, selling over 1.5 million copies, as he emotionally sang about a father's feelings toward his daughter on her wedding day. At the end of the same year, she made her first appearance on the 35th NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen (Red and White Singing Contest), making a name for herself as one of Japan's leading singers. He continued to release many enka songs, such as "Kopshu" and"Married Life Route, " which focused on the subtleties of life and family ties.
