Biography

Gabriel Alonso Suárez Romero, known as Gabriel Romero, was born in 1943 and is a Colombian singer-songwriter, musician, and bandleader. As a child, he formed his first music group with schoolmates and performed at local festivals. Romero won a radio contest that led to his debut performance with Pacho Galán's orchestra. In 1969, he recorded "La Piragua" with Los Black Stars, marking the start of his professional career. Throughout his career, Romero released several albums, including A Todo Tren (Vol. V) (1969), ¡En Plena Fiesta! (1975), and El Cumbiambero (1979). Notable songs from his discography include "La Subienda" and "El Porro Sabanero". Romero's contributions to Colombian music, particularly in the genres of cumbia and porro.
